DAVID MIRRA BIO:
David Mirra(b. San Miguel de Allende, 1974) is a highly versatile Mexican visual artist whose work seamlessly bridges the gaps between abstract expressionism and deeply conceptual surrealism.
Trained at the National School of Plastic Arts (UNAM), he earned a spot in the High Academic Excellence Program at the historic Academy of San Carlos, supported by the UNAM and Telmex Foundations. With a professional career spanning over 14 years, Mirra has built a solid presence in the contemporary Mexican art market, boasting more than 20 collective exhibitions and 13 solo shows in key cultural destinations, including Puerto Vallarta, Cancún, Los Cabos, and the prestigious Soumaya Museum in Mexico City.
Mirra’s artistic vocabulary shifts effortlessly between two masterful horizons. As a profound tribute to the Abstract Expressionist movement, he has developed acclaimed series honoring icons like Willem de Kooning and Per Kirkeby.
Concurrently, his surrealist production stands as a powerful testament to painterly thickness and psychological tension, using retro textures and grotesque aesthetics to explore the thin boundary between human rationality and primal animal instinct. Today, he is represented by leading contemporary galleries across Mexico.
